TKS Motorsports – Searching for the Groove

Dallas, TX (June 6, 2019) – Austin McCarl and the TKS Motorsports finally got to see the track at Knoxville Raceway after a few weeks of rainouts and came home with a top five. The Troy and Tammy Renfro-owned team finished 4th after some contact on a restart knocked down the nose wing and slammed the door on their chances of a podium finish. They’ll have the Midwest Basement Systems/Casey’s General Stores #2KS ready for two nights of racing this weekend, as they head to Lee County Speedway in Donnellson, IA to take on the MOWA regulars, before heading back to Knoxville to continue their title defense!

A poor pill draw saw Austin McCarl taking to the track pretty late in time trials, but he was still able to lay down a solid time. “We qualified alright for where we went out,” said Austin. “We tried a couple of different things with the car in the heat race and I just got too tight and wasn’t able to move forward.”

After starting and finishing in the fourth position in their heat, the TKS Motorsports team found themselves starting 7th in the night’s main event. After a solid start, some contact on a restart would damage the front wing and stunt a strong run. “I was able to move up to 4th pretty quick at the start on the bottom, which was fun for me since I’m usually not too strong on the bottom,” said Austin. “However, we got bottled up on a restart and the contact knocked our front wing down.”

With an injured racecar, Austin was able to hold on to 4th and a solid points night for the TKS team. “We were really lucky to maintain our spot in the top five with the damage to the nose wing,” said Troy Renfro. “That shows the speed we have in the motor and the job Austin did to be able to hold on like that.”

Wednesday night saw the team getting some extra laps on the track to break in a newly built Al Parker engine and the team will be taking their second car down to Lee County Speedway this Friday. “We got some good laps in on Wednesday and were able to feel out our new motor,” said Troy. “On Friday, we’ll have our second car out to run with MOWA, but it will be good to get some more laps on any track with all of the rainouts this year.”

Both Austin and Troy are looking forward to a good, clean weekend to help them get back in the groove. “Last weekend ended up being a pretty solid points night, but we haven’t had a clean night out yet,” said Austin. “It would be nice to put together two clean nights with good finishes this weekend.”

“It has just been one of those years so far,” said Troy. “Between the rainouts and some of the little things we’ve had go wrong when we have gotten to race, I’m looking forward to two nights on the track this weekend and see if we can get back in the groove.”
