TKS Motorsports – Hitting the Halfway Mark

Des Moines, IA (June 20, 2018) – Austin McCarl and the TKS Motorsports team find themselves in a close battle for the points lead at the Knoxville Raceway going into this Saturday’s Mid-Season Championship night! After a pretty uneventful top ten last week, the Renfro-owned #2KS is looking to score their fourth win of the season and take back the point lead from Brooke Tatnell, before the World of Outlaws come to town for two nights of racing on June 29th & 30th.

It was a slow start for Austin McCarl and the TKS team on Saturday night, as they couldn’t find their groove through qualifying and their heat race. “I didn’t really qualify well,” said Austin, who timed in tenth out of 23 competitors, which left him starting 3rd in first 410 heat of the night. “We then went out and lost a spot in the heat and that really buried us pretty deep in the A-main.”

Even with the struggles experienced early in the night by his team, Troy and the team were impressed by the quality of the racing surface. “The track was great on Saturday, especially with the heat all day and through the night,” said Renfro. “The Dunkins and everyone on the Knoxville track crew did a great job.”

The night’s feature event saw the Casey’s General Stores/Midwest Basement Systems #2KS rolling off in the 13th spot, but Austin was able to make some moves early in the race to jump into the top ten. “I was able to work around a few cars early in the A-main, but the top had gotten a bit rough, so the bottom was the place to be,” said McCarl. “I was thinking that we were going to be able to get a top five out of the night, but the engine was going away a little at the end, so I settled into 7th.”

While not at full power when the checkered flag waved on Saturday night, Troy noted that what was really important was avoiding the dreaded “DNF” in the stat column. “We broke a valve spring in the feature,” said Renfro. “Austin salvaged a seventh-place finish and was able to keep the car on the track and sometimes that’s just how it goes. We’ll be back ready to go next week!”

The Troy and Tammy Renfro-owned #2KS and Austin McCarl will be back in action this Saturday for Mid-Season Championship night at the Knoxville Raceway! Check out the new TKS Motorsports website for the season schedule and more from the TKS team.
